Starting and growing a streetwear brand ft Panashe Madziva ( @Im_so_Arcane )

QMCV the streetwear brand Run263 in 2012, in the midst of the ZImbabwe Hip Hop rise. Their t-shirts could be seen on the largest stages, in the press, and on most urban music videos of the time.

Panashe and Archie talk about how it really was to start a business then and how it has been going for the past 8 years. An open discussion around the learnings that come with the streetwear market, recovering the brand after Panashe lost his business partner, friend, Michael.

The importance of family support for creative entrepreneurship is also on the table; how having other business activities enabled the continuous bootstrapping of Run 263 and Panashe tells us the risks he wishes he had taken with the brand.

An overall insightful conversation with lots to learn. Follow Panashe: @Im_so_arcane (Twitter and Instagram), Panashe Madziva (Facebook). Follow QMCV apparel to keep up with the growth of the brand on qmcv_apparel (Instagram).

Super grateful to Panashe for taking the time out to have this conversation with me. I will continue to provide Zimbabwean startup stories and conversations around unique African and global niches with weekly podcasts.

Starting a Non- Profit Foundation in an Economy like Ours with Edmore Munyoro of Angels Foundation

In this episode, Archie chats to Edmore Munyoro, the CEO and Co-Founder of Angels Foundation, a non-profit born from his home in Harare. With his friends, they have grown the foundation over 5 grueling years and now, directly and indirectly, assist thousands of Zimbabweans annually in different projects.

We learn about starting a non-profit, it's apparently not all rainbows and unicorns and family doesn't always take it well. The lessons we learn when we start: how they conducted their first medical outreach with just a doctor and a stethoscope. Is it really a startup if you don't have an office in the CBD?

Edmore also takes us through the amazing work they are doing as a foundation: Medical outreaches, a building project, soup kitchens, and a pad campaign...All of this unfunded.

So much to learn in this episode, Thank you Edmore and the Angels Foundation Zimbabwe team for sharing your story.

This is another zoom recorded conversation with minimal audio editing.

Changing Africa perceptions around Insurance

Archie talks to Aaron Shoko, the Afro-insurer in the first episode in a series of lockdown chats around continuously improving. We learn why insurance is important and not just for old people. Your motor vehicle insurance covers a lot more than you know and third party insurance isn't really insurance.

There is room for insurance as a business to grow in Africa, what is it that insurers need to do?

This episode was recorded on zoom and I "edited" it myself. #KaizenYOU

Passionate about Marketing and Branding for both corporates and individuals, he takes us through the paces on how to create a good brand then schools us about something you could never guess. His new passion after telecoms and Banking seems to be deeper than meets the eye and he shows that data can be used even there for a better branding experience.
