Ndabo Zulu

Our special guest is Durban-born trumpet player, composer and band leader, Ndabo Zulu [Ndabenhle Zulu]. Ndabo started playing trumpet at the age of 11, and in 2002 at the age of 14 he joined The Field Band Foundation, which also offered him his first international scholarship. He later went to the Durban Music School where he learned how to read and write music.

Sibusile Xaba

Our special guest is the charismatic guitarist, Sibusile Xaba. Coming from the KwaZulu Natal midlands, he carries forth the Maskandi and Mbaqanga traditions of his region. Steeped in the lineage of Zulu guitar giant Madala Kunene (Sibusile’s first mentor) & warrior chants of vocal master, Shaluza Max, he not only owns these influences, but pushes the envelope as only a maestro with a keen ear for the future does. We’ll be celebrating his second album Ngiwu Shwabada, which was recorded in one continuous take at Studio Pigalle in Paris, in May 2019. It features his long-time musical companion Naftali on additional vocals. Sibusile explains the philosophy behind this second album titled “Ngiwu Shwabada” (I am of Shwabada — a spiritual lineage).

Alune Wade

In line with #CoronaHope we will be crossing to Paris to speak to Senegalese singer and bass virtuoso, Alune Wade. Having been headhunted by Ismaël Lô at the age of 18, Alune continued to perform and record with contemporary music legends including Salif Keita, Oumou Sangaré, Bobby McFerrin, Joe Zawinul, Fatoumata Diawara, Paco Sery, Cheick Tidiane Seck, Deep Forest and Gregory Porter. In 2015 he was asked by Marcus Miller to record on Miller's album ‘Afrodeezia’, and he has since become a successful solo artist. Since the outbreak of Covid19 and the global lockdown, Alune has been recording a series of music videos, featuring collaborations with some of the world’s most talented artists.

Amobe is also a cultural activist, and his latest exciting project is ‘WAN 2020’ - an ongoing initiative and a 2 x hour musical event that is happening on May 25 forAfrica Day! WAN(Worldwide Afro Network) project will bring together Artists, Leaders, and Innovators. It will take place all day long on social networks with the hashtags #JeSuisWan and #IAmWan. It will conclude with a Show 2.0 that will be broadcast for free in prime time, on all African national channels and some private channels, with the technical support of the African Union Broadcasting and Thomson Broadcast.

The World Show features songs and interviews from #Coronahope projects - featuring dynamic South African artists! In conversation with Mark Roth [in Switzerland] and Afrika Mkhize [in SA] about the SA collective, Sabela and the song ‘Masibambeni’ which is “a call to South Africans to unite and be strong during these challenging times.” From their homes, a group of South African music legends have come together to create a song to help raise funds for musicians all over the country, who have been affected by the nationwide lockdown. Executive Producer Mark Roth, worked in collaboration with Co-Executive producer Ayanda Holo and the renowned pianist Afrika Mkhize as composer and producer. David Feigerolles

The World Show features songs and interviews from #Coronahope project - featuring dynamic South African artists! We crossover to Paris to chat with acclaimed producer, David Feigerolles. As a producer and sound engineer, David has worked with numerous icons of World Music, and is locally best known for his work with Swaziland’s Bholoja and Velemseni; and with South Africans Gally Ngoveni, Max Hoba and many more. As the founder of the ‘The Future Paradise’ - a production-oriented artistic musical group, David recently put together an inspiring project during the Covid-19 pandemic, called ‘We Will Be Okay!’ With this uplifting virtual collaboration, David brought together a colourful array of international artists from South Africa, Swaziland, France, Uganda, Austria, Mali, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, USA and Cameroon. “As the magic of music always shines brightly, musicians from all over the world share love”.
