The Port Elizabeth High Court has ordered the Nelson Mandela Metro Speaker, Buyelwa Mafaya to convene a council meeting within seven days to elect a new mayor. The order was made after Cogta MEC Xolile Nqatha filed an urgent application to have the election of incumbent mayor, DA's Nqaba Bhanga invalid. (The court order makes provision for the Executive Mayor to remain in office until a new mayor is elected . so he's position remains, the government remains, absolutely nothing changes with regards to the status quo until the new mayor is elected. We are confident that our coalition is stable and we will be able to re-elect the current executive mayor and continue with our government and continue with progress we've been doing since we have taken office)
