Christmas Wish is officially open on Mansfield on the Morning! It’s been a tough year for everyone, for some people more than others, and we all know someone that is going through an especially difficult time. This is the time to spotlight those people because this initiative is aimed at improving the lives of the individual.

Brendan Pretorius nominated his mate Michael Strydom and says he is the nicest guy you’ll ever met and after hearing his story, we’d like to agree.
A dedicated husband and father of two, has always been tenacious, hard-working and willing to help of others.
About 15 weeks ago, Michael stopped for an elderly lady whose car had broken down on the highway late at night. While getting tools out from his boot, an errant driver crashed into the lady’s car at high speed crushing Michael between the two vehicles. He broke both legs above the knee and sustained a serious head injury from hitting his head on the boot of the car due to the impact. He spent 26 days in ICU.
Positive person that he is, Michael is making phenomenal strides in his recovery. He’s lost significant muscle mass and cannot yet walk, making it impossible to work. As a sole breadwinner for his beautiful young family, this has put incredible pressure on the Strydom family finances. Michael’s employer covered the first 2 months of his salary but will no longer do so.
The Hot91.9FM Christmas Wish would like to keep this young family afloat by covering the rent, groceries and household expenses for the next three months so Michael can focus on his rehabilitation.
We wish Michael a speedy recovery and Happy Holidays to his beautiful family.

Rubena got in touch with Hot 91.9FM Christmas Wish and nominated her cousin, Tasnim Chopdat and her five children.
On the 27 October 2018 a fire struck Tasnim’s home. Mercifully nobody was hurt and only parts of the house were affected. However, the worst affected by the blaze was her youngest three daughters’ bedroom.
As if that were not bad enough, the fire happened during exam time burning all the girls’ school books, uniforms, clothes, shoes and many treasured, invaluable personal items. All they had remaining were the clothes they were wearing on the day.
Rubena’s Christmas Wish for her cousin was for some assistance to replace the beds, which have left the children with nowhere to sleep as well as a voucher to buy the little ones much – needed clothing.
Hot 91.9FM Christmas Wish contacted the good people at Dial-A-Bed who generously gifted a tri-bunk bed for the kids’ bedroom.
But what about the clothing? Well, thanks to Jawitz Properties that’s no longer an issue either. They kindly donated R20 000 worth of school uniform, clothing, school equipment as well as some of the children’s most favourite things that they had lost in the fire. And, to round it all off, Hot91.9FM Christmas Wish will purchase replacement linen, bedding and curtains to make their room feel like a home again!
Thanks to Hot 91.9FM Christmas Wish and the kindness of our partners, we’re able to make this holiday season a truly merry one for Tasnim’s girls.

Little 8 - year - old Aiden Nothnagel was bitten in the face by a staffie in January this year.

As a result of this traumatic event, Aiden has had to have reconstructive plastic surgery done to close his wounds left by the dog bite.

Hot 91.9FM Christmas Wish received a plea from Aiden’s mom, Desire, to help her son out after what has, understandably, been a terribly tough year for the little man.

According to his mom, Aiden just lives for cricket and is a massive Proteas fan. His favourite player in the Proteas side is opening batsman, Aiden Markram, whom Aiden believes he was named after!

Desire wrote to us asking if there was any way we could arrange a meeting between the two Aidens.

Hot 91.9FM Christmas Wish decided to go one better and fly Aiden, his mom and his sister to Cape Town to go and watch his hero in action for his local Mzansi Super League franchise, Paarl Rocks.

Christmas Wish also arranged a special meet - and - greet for Aiden with his namesake and the entire Paarl Rocks team after the game, a signed shirt and whole host of other memorabilia to ensure this was a day he would never ever forget and treasure forever!

Rachel Debi was nominated by her daughter, Makaila Padayachee.

In 2003 Rachel underwent an operation that left her semi-paralysed. According to Makaila, Rachel struggles to sleep and suffers from severe back pain because of the operation and an old, inferior bed.

Maikaila’s wish for her mom was a brand new, comfortable bed to make nights a little bit easier. Rachel also recently turned 51 and part of Makaila’s wish was a birthday party and cake for her mom.

With the assistance of Mattress Factory, Hot 91.9FM Christmas Wish arranged a brand new, state - of - the - art mattress and base set to alleviate some of the discomfort associated with Rachel’s prolonged bed rest.

Thanks to Hot Cares, Rachel was also given brand new linen and bedding, Dischem and Pick n Pay vouchers, a birthday cake and balloons so that she could have the party she had missed out on.

Makaila also informed Christmas Wish that her mom and granny live together in the same flat and she continuously worries about their safety given that it has no security gate. Hot Cares came to the party here as well, arranging and paying for a security door to be installed so that Rachel, her mom and Makaila can all sleep a little bit easier at night.

Strictly defined as a group of people that are related to one another, family is so much more than that. Family is that incredible bond created by mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters that provides comfort in a world of uncertainty. It’s a shoulder to lean on. And this is exactly what Jabulile Magudulela demonstrated when she submitted her Christmas Wish.
Jabulile’s sister, Thembelihle is a young mom of three beautiful children. The family’s newest addition is 7-month-old Karabo. Just like any of us, this working mom’s main objective is to keep her head above water. It’s been a tough year financially, between her job as a call centre agent, caring for her kids, her marriage and supporting her mother and other family back home in KZN. Jabulile’s concern for her sister is the fact that they’ve not been able to afford a car seat for little Karabo. Jabulile tells us that when they travel, her 11-year-old niece would have to hold Karabo. With the high incidence of road accidents, Jabulile’s concern for her nephew’s safety is well-founded.
Hot91.9FM and Christmas Wish decided to not only intervene with a much-needed car seat for little baby Karabo, but to also alleviate some financial pressure, we purchased a pram, camp cot, food and nappies for two months!

Our first Christmas Wish of 2018 was about celebrating silver linings and sharing the unshakeable resilience we as South Africans have. Mthokozisi Khumalo is one such South African.
Derrick Murphy contacted us about his employee Rebecca Khumalo and her son, Mthokozisi. Rebecca had asked Derrick for an advance on her December and January wages in the hope she’d be able to witness her son celebrating a major milestone in his life; being the first in his family to complete a tertiary qualification. It’s been a long hard road, but with financial aid from NSFAS, Mthokozisi completed his studies in Electrical Engineering at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. While Derrick was happy to help Rebecca we thought, in the current economic climate, starting the new year off repaying loans is an incredibly precarious place to be.
With the generous assistance of Flight Centre who covered the return flights, accommodation and transport to and from the graduation, we were able to surprise Rebecca with the wonderful news that she would be able to see her son graduate after all. Not only that, the chance to spend time with her son on her first ever visit to the Mother City. Hot 91.9FM came on-board with some spending money for a trip up Table Mountain by cable car, as well as a tour of the V & A Waterfront and Robben Island.
