UEFA Nations League, HBUFC and a Witch Doctor?

The UEFA Nations League is back and as per normal, bringing yawns and confusion to football fans around the world. UEFA decided it would be a good idea to take International friendlies, and make them into a competition, much to the demise of footballers who have complained bout the busy schedule already in place. Surprisingly, however, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winners, France, are sitting right at the bottom of their group - this could be thanks to the number of injuries they have, including star players Benzema, Pogba, and Kante.

Hout Bay United Football Community has been on the mind of Andrew Pillay for over 18 months, and it is now official: The UK-based businessman has bought a 50% shareholders stake in the club. Andrew is also the owner of Waterford FC in Ireland, and Fleetwood Town FC in England. This is an exciting time for the Cape Town-based club!

On the latest episode of the International News Desk, the Pogba brothers and the apparent witch doctor debacle are discussed. The UEFA Nations League brings boredom to football fans, and Hout Bay United Football Community has a new stakeholder!

Does Antony Warrant €100 Million?

Manchester United has never been afraid to splash the cash; Pogba for £94 million, Maguire for £80, and Lukaku for £76 million are 3 of the top 4 expensive transfers in the clubs' history. The connection? These three players have flopped for the Red Devils and the worry with that is the new signing from Ajax - Antony. Manchester United has whipped out close to €100 million (R1.7 Billion) for a player that has only spent roughly 2 seasons in a top-flight European team, where his goal contribution (goals and assists) is less than 50. Will Antony live up to the expectations and break the trend, or will Antony join the flops? When asked, International Football expert Liam Becker responds by saying ‘He won't be a flop, but it is incredibly difficult to live up to those kinds of price tags.’

The UEFA Champions League draw has been conducted and the groups have been announced. Without a shadow of a doubt, Group C is the one to watch, the group of death so to say, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan will all face each other, and unfortunately for them, FC Viktoria Plzeň will finish off the group.

On the latest episode of the International News Desk, Manchester United made headlines by splashing the cash on Antony and the UCL draw brings excitement. Transfer deadline day gets discussed with some big-name transfers!

Are UTD Better Off Without CR7?

For the first time in over 100 years, Manchester United lost their two opening matches of the season, first to Brighton which saw the Seagulls overcome Man Utd 4-1, and then Brentford put another 4 past the red devils. All eyes were fixated on Manchester United vs Liverpool; protests were occurring during the week building up and a result was needed. United boss Erik ten Hag made a bold call by not only benching club captain Harry Maguire but also 5-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo as Anthony Elanga, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford lead the attack.

The Red Devils were the better side on the day as they managed to grab their first points of the season, winning that match 2-1. CR7 wasn't missed much as the youngsters up front made life incredibly hard for Liverpool's defence!

On the latest episode of The International News Desk, Manchester United is the hot topic with rumours of CR7's future still up in the air. The Red Devils looked to be the better side against Liverpool and the PSG attacking trio butt heads!

Man Utd For Sale?

Since 2005, the Glazer family has owned the majority stake in Manchester United Football Club. They have invested millions into making the club world-class, however, in recent years, they have played a major role in the club's destruction. Lack of football knowledge, greed, and selfishness have proved to be the characteristics shown by the Glazers. And the fans have officially had enough. Trophyless for seasons on end, wasting money on ‘over-hyped’ players, and pure chaos has driven the United faithful up and the wall and enough is enough.

The latest development circulating the club is that the British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe is prepared to purchase the stake the Glazers are considering putting on offer - Jim would like to eventually own the club as he is a die-hard Red Devil. This news is coming as a breath of fresh air for all United fans as the last few years have been far from fruitful.

On the latest episode of the International News Desk, Manchester United is the topic of discussion and its potential sale. Cristiano Ronaldo appears to have had enough and Neymar and Mbappe are bashing heads!

Benni to Man Utd: Is He More Respected Abroad?

The Biggest news coming out of the mother city is Benni McCarthy’s new coaching role. The Cape-Town-born legend has recently joined Manchester United in a forward coach position, under the guidance of Erik ten Hag. The Champions League winner will have a major say and hand in the way the Red Devils move forward in attack, he will be working with not only forwards such as Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo, but Benni will also be working with the fullbacks.

Benni’s coaching journey, more notably, started in 2017 when Cape Town City appointed the former Porto FC striker as head coach. He would complete his UEFA Pro Licence while coaching City, and would win his first silverware as a coach in 2018 when he guided City to the MTN8 cup. 5 years later, McCarthy has made South Africa proud once again.

On the latest episode of the International News Desk, Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy has joined Manchester United under Erik ten Hag in a striker coach position. What does this mean for the PSL and South African football?

Is Ronaldo Finished?

A fairytale return that ended up in a sticky situation, Cristiano Ronaldo has not changed his stance on his future. The Portuguese legend returned to Manchester in a move that took the world by storm, however that talking point has taken a turn for the worst. CR7 wants out. He has made this very clear and handed in a transfer request before the Mid-year transfer window. Ronaldo probably thought that he would have his pick of Champions League sides, but instead what he has received is a complete dismantling of his status in world football in the space of these two months. Unfortunately for Ronaldo, being rejected by a handful of clubs has been the case and Manchester United are adamant that the 37-year-old is not for sale. Where will Ronaldo end up? After all, a contract is a contract and it is starting to look like he will have to play out his time at Old Trafford.

On the latest episode of the International News Desk, former Mamelodi Sundowns and Ajax Cape Town goalie Sean Roberts sits down with Soccer Laduma’s International news correspondent Kurt Buckerfield to discuss the latest news hitting the headlines. CR7 and Manchester United seem to be butting heads and not changing their stances on that situation and Joan Laporte has come out and said that he feels like he owes Messi something - maybe a possible return? The lads also discuss some of the transfers that might have slipped through your radar such as Timo Werner to leave and Kasper Schmeichel to Lille in Ligue 1.

Nobody Wants Ronaldo!

Since his remarkable return to Manchester, Cristiano Ronaldo continued to show his professionalism and football prowess by continuing to be on the score sheet, grabbing 18 goals for the Red Devils in the league, however, Manchester United finished in a dismal 6th position (the worst placement in their history.) It is evident that changes need to happen and with the likes of Erik ten Hag coming in, changes seem to be happening. Cristiano on the other hand seems as if he wants ‘out’ of the red devils as he wouldn’t play UEFA Champions League football if he stayed, and for Mr. Champions League himself is a big problem. Since he handed in his transfer request, clubs such as PSG, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich have rejected the 37-year-old superstar. The latest to come from the CR7 camp is that Ronaldo has ‘rejected’ a move to an unnamed Saudi Arabia team, on a 2-year deal worth €200 Million, but this could be a clever move by Jorge Mendes (Ronaldo’s agent).

The transfer window is well underway with some massive signings having already been cleared. Sterling to Chelsea, Haaland to City, and Nunez to Liverpool, but many more signings are said to still be ongoing. The biggest one is Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United. There seems to be a wonky line of communication, but the latest is that Barcelona are adamant to get De Jong off their squad list

On the latest episode of the International News Desk, the latest and greatest transfers get broken down and the future of Cristiano Ronaldo gets discussed. Manchester United’s progress seems to be going well under Erik ten Hag.

Why Ronaldo Is Throwing His Toys…

It is no secret that Manchester United have some serious work to do on and off the pitch after finishing in the lowest rank they have in the history of the Premier League. United are desperate to boost their squad with talent and the first signing has been completed in Tyrell Malacia. Christen Erikson could be the second new player to join Carrington, but to add fuel to the fire, one Manchester United star is fed up with the lack of ambition shown by the club and has requested to be sold. Portuguese maestro Cristiano Ronaldo, after his highly-anticipated return, has now asked the Manchester United Board to be sold as he is fed up with the club. If the 37-year-old stays with the Red Devils, this would be the first time in 20 years that CR7 won’t play champions league football!

Also on the latest episode of the International News Desk, Raheem Sterling is set to join Chelsea after the blues and Manchester City agreed on terms, Paul Pogba has officially been announced by Juventus and Soccer Laduma International News Correspondent digs deep into the tactics played by Barcelona President Joan Laporta.

Sterling Set For Shock EPL Move!

Seven years ago, Raheem ‘The Dream’ Sterling moved from Merseyside to Manchester in a move that raised a few eyebrows. The 20-year-old at the time left Liverpool in hopes of achieving greater success and silverware and set for Manchester City. Since 2015, The Jamaican-born striker has made over 200 appearances for the Citizens and has scored close to 100 goals; Sterling has also represented the English national team at every level with 77 caps for the men's first team. Manchester City have been extremely busy with transfers, having acquired the signature of 21 - year-old Erling Haaland and in January, River Plate’s Julian Alverez.

City manager Pep Guardiola has insisted he has been impressed with the young Argentine and unfortunately for Sterling, being a squad player isn’t exactly his dream. In a shocking turn of events, the blues of London, Chelsea FC, have shown interest in the Englishman with a fee of roughly £30 Million. This move could come as a shock to many, but for that amount of money, Raheem is definitely worth every penny and even more. He brings goals and assists and an incredible work ethic; a vital cog to any team.

The International transfer window is well underway for some, but Manchester United are quiet and for the first time in a decade, the Red Devils haven't made a June signing. There are copious amounts of reports and rumours, but that's all they are. It seems as if the Ten Gah fever has died down.

On the latest episode of the International News Desk, the transfers around Europe are a hot talking point with Raheem Sterling being the main attraction. Romelu Lukaka is set to rejoin Inter Milan on a Season Long loan and questions about Manchester United are asked!

How Did Mbappe Disrespect South American Football?

With the international scene being fairly quiet, only a few major events have occurred in recent days. To kick things off, the transfer windows around Europe have opened and transfer talks are well underway. The biggest transfer story to come out of England is that Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez could have snubbed Manchester United to join fierce rivals, Liverpool, as he seeks Champions League football. There are still some concerns over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at the Red Devils. Will the Portugues veteran stay at a club that cannot offer him Champions League football, or will he leave Old Trafford? Will a UCL team sign Ronaldo? These are the questions that Soccer Laduma International news correspondent Kurt Buckerfield answers on the latest episode of the International News desk podcast!

The UEFA Nations League kicked off recently with the biggest talking point being Lionel Messi’s 5-star performance against European Outfit Estonia. Magical Messi scored an incredible 5 goals, becoming the first player in history to score 5 goals in a single match at club level and for his country. Right before that match, Kylian Mbappe somewhat disrespected the South American game saying that teams are weaker there than in Europe, so it was fitting for Messi to dominate a European team that the likes of Mbappe would have faced.
