--:--
June 16th was the turning point in South African political history. During this era South Africa was under the Apartheid Government. The Government was passing a law that all subjects in schools be taught in Afrikaans. This became difficult for school pupils. They decided to take to the street to protest the use of Afrikaans as a compulsory language to be used in school. Over ten thousand school pupils took to the street in the township of Soweto. The Police then opened fire on the harmless school kids killing many and injuring many.
