The Chinese New Year was an opportunity to travel for Kagiso Mogotsi. January 2020 marked two years since she had been living in Tianjin. After a short break to Vietnam for the holidays, she planned to return to complete her teaching contract. But while on holiday, China went into lockdown to deal with the upsurge of coronavirus cases. She then decided to come back to South Africa to wait out the crisis that would surely end in a few weeks’ time. Or so she thought.
