Mapela community stands up to Anglo Platinum Mine

The Masubelele Family and the Mapela Concerned Residents have lodged an urgent interdict against the Mogalakwena Section of Anglo Platinum Mine.

This is in relation with negotiations that have been ongoing between the community and the mine around the mine’s expansion at Swartfontein Farm. Anglo Platinum Mine was supposed to relocate the community together with their graves and settle them in another area, in exchange for a substantial compensation, for the direct benefit of the entire mining community.

The Masubelele family is the last remaining family on this land where Anglo Platinum Mine continues to mine. They are exposed to mining debris and have also made claims that some material and rocks have been dumped in their backyards by the mines.
