Dr Phophi Ramathuba responds to 'open your books & close your legs' backlash

Media personality Siv Ngesi has joined the thousands of people expressing their outrage over Limpopo Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba's recent school visit address where she advised the girls to open their book and close their legs.

A video of the Limpopo Health MEC went viral on Twitter after Ramathuba visited Gwenane secondary school in Sekgakgapeng on Wednesday to monitor the first day of the new academic year.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Dr Ramathuba hit back at "Twitter parents" and those lambasting her, saying not only did the naysayers use the video clip without context, they have chosen to be ignorant about the factors that make teenage pregnancy the scourge it is in rural areas and townships.

The Limpopo Health MEC clarified that her full address had direct messages for both girls and boys.
