Anglo American off the grid: SA's Utility Death Spiral

Anglo American is taking its 19 South African operations completely off-grid. They plan to be 100% off the grid by 2030 and the plan is to be carbon-neutral by 2040.

From an environmental perspective, it is certainly leading the way, and with a national energy utility not showing signs of their improved ability to supply electricity, many corporations might decide to take the same route.

Unfortunately, it might have some negative effects for those who are still dependent on the energy grid.
