#WorldFoodDay Expert urges people to eat indigenous foods

An expert from the National Research Foundation says as part of World Food Day, there is a need to promote the eating of indigenous foods which have proven to be healthy and less expensive. Speaking to Nghamula Chauke, National Research Foundation Chair in Food Environments, Nutrition and Health Prof Xikombiso Gertrude Mbhenyane said interventions are needed in the country to ensure the consumption of foods with health benefits. Prof. Mbhenyane has also highlighted her concern that there is a low consumption and sale of indigenous plants in the country, despite their health benefits.
