Gavin Steinhobel and Barry Bowditch discuss Barry Godwin's situation

Loading player...
There has been an outpouring of concern from the Ballito community over the arrest of Barry Godwin, a man who for several years has been living quietly on the fringes of Ballito society with his dog and who has become somewhat of a local celebrity. Godwin and his dog Rasta have become a fixture on the beachfront and have won many friends in the community. On Friday afternoon following a complaint laid with the SAPS, Barry was taken into custody and his dog was tied to a fence in the park in which his tent was pitched until it could be rescued by concerned neighbours.
He has been released on a warning today and his fate hangs in the balance.
Our attempts to reach the complainant, Nick Alers, who is renting a property next to the park and thought to work in the Crypto field, have so far been in vain but there is growing consensus in the community that a solution must urgently be found to assist Mr Godwin to find safe sanctuary.
