Wits Hunger Strike - Siyanda Mthethwa

Students on a hunger strike at Wits University have
expressed dissatisfaction with the university's revised
registration policy, which allows undergraduate students
owing less than R150,000 to register. The strike, supported
by student representative council protests, has led to
negotiations with university management.
Saturday marks day nine of the hunger strike, with reports
that some participants have required medical attention as
their conditions worsen.
Hunger striker Siviwe Mafuna criticizes the policy, stating
that it excludes postgraduate students like him. He rejects
the concessions reached between management and the
Student Representative Council (SRC) and demands that
all unregistered students register despite their historic debt.
The strikers are waiting for the university to address their
concerns directly.
