Kopedi Aphane is a trailblazing film director and producer from Soweto, South Africa, known for his bold storytelling and commitment to authenticity. As the founder of APN Pictures (PTY) LTD, Aphane has emerged as a dynamic force in African cinema, using film as a tool to reflect, challenge, and inspire. His critically acclaimed short film Breaking Free, co-created with writer Nthabiseng Letsoela, earned international praise at the 2024 American Black Film Festival’s inaugural “South African Stories” showcase in Miami — a testament to his rising global influence. A graduate of Big Fish Film School with additional qualifications in IT and Project Management, Aphane brings a rare fusion of creative vision and technical expertise to his work. His passion for storytelling began in childhood, inspired by Soweto’s rich cultural landscape and a rebellious habit of skipping church to watch films every Sunday.
