In preparation for the 2026 academic year, the Department of Higher Education and Training, Minister Buti Manamela has projected that public universities will offer about 235,000 first-year places. TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) colleges are expected to provide 170,000 first-time entrant spaces, while Community Education & Training (CET) colleges will serve around 120,000 learners. In total, that’s about 525,000 places across universities, TVET and CET institutions.
