A shooting incident at the Johannesburg residence of the late former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has sparked public concern and renewed debate about accountability, privilege and equal treatment before the law.

According to reports, Mugabe’s son and another man were arrested after allegedly shooting and wounding a gardener at the property. The suspects are expected to appear in court on charges of attempted murder.

The Activists and Citizens Forum, through spokesperson Dennis Bloem, has emphasised that the matter must be treated strictly as a criminal case — not a political one. They argue that South Africa’s justice system must demonstrate that no individual receives preferential treatment, regardless of family name, political legacy, or influence.
