Zimbabwe scraps its 75 percent local ownership rule for telecoms operators three weeks after gazetting it, and government announces a National Cybersecurity Strategy for 2026 to 2030 at the ITU CyberDrill in Victoria Falls, including a new National Cybersecurity Authority, a cyber hygiene campaign for SMEs, and a deepfake detection taskforce.
Powertel and Paratus switch on the first phase of a cross border fibre corridor from Plumtree to Bulawayo, a project designed to turn landlocked Zimbabwe into a transit route for regional internet traffic. The Zimbabwe Stock Exchange signs a run of partnerships around ZEEX, its SME and startup exchange, including a deal with the National Venture Capital Company of Zimbabwe.

South Africa makes online traveller declarations mandatory from 1 July, raising the cross border cash threshold from R25,000 to R100,000, with direct consequences for travellers crossing at Beitbridge.
And Apple, Microsoft and others raise hardware prices as the AI boom drains the global supply of memory chips, with the sharpest impact falling on the sub 100 dollar devices that bring most first time users online in Africa.
