Businessman Stuart James Scharnick, an associate of suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya, was arrested yesterday after a journalist covering the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry opened a case of intimidation against him.
The incident happened on the sidelines of the Commission’s hearings at the Bridgette Mabandla Justice College in Pretoria, where journalists have been covering testimony linked to allegations of criminality, political interference and corruption within South Africa’s criminal justice system.
According to Sowetan journalist Herman Moloi, the confrontation began after Scharnick allegedly accused him of recording him and posting the footage on social media.
