The Greater Johannesburg Policing Taxi Forum (G.J.P.T.F) will lead a community clean-up at Noord Taxi Rank and its surrounding streets on Friday, 23 October 2026, under the theme Bringing Back Hope to Commuters.
The campaign marks the close of Transport Month and responds to the daily reality faced by thousands of commuters who pass through the inner city's busiest ranks: litter, illegal dumping, blocked drains and poor lighting that make the start and end of each journey harder than it should be.
Working alongside the South African Police Service (SAPS), the Johannesburg Central Community Police Forum (CPF), JMPD, Gauteng Social Development, the Ward 59 Councillor and City of Johannesburg partners, the Taxi Forum will mobilise drivers, marshals, owners, informal traders, commuters and volunteers to clean and restore the area.
"Every day, thousands of people start and end their journeys at this rank. They deserve a place that is clean, safe and treats them with dignity," said Mr R N Mbatha, Chairman of the G.J.P.T.F. "As the taxi industry, we are not waiting for someone else to fix it. We are rolling up our sleeves, with SAPS, JMPD, the CPF and our partners, to bring back hope to our commuters."
