The Department of Transport is seeking to introduce radical measures to stop the carnage on the country's roads.
Transport Minister, Dipuo Peters on Tuesday met with the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Michael Masutha, where several radical interventions were considered.
In announcing earlier that festive season road deaths had risen by 14 percent, Peters promised harsher sentences for offenders.
Her spokesperson, Ishmael Mnisi, says one of the key recommendations was the re-classification of serious road traffic offences to meet specific schedules of the Criminal Procedure Act.
