Three foreigners caught with R1m worth of abalone in NW

Three Bangladeshi nationals have appeared in the Bloemhof Magistrate’s court on charges of possessing illegal abalone with a street value of R1 million.

Atif Raza Sjed (35), Sajdeed Kham (32) and Asif Shan Kham (37) will lodging a formal bail application next week, February 19.

North West Police spokesperson Kelebogile Moleko says their arrest was the result of a joint operation between local police members and their Free State counterparts.

The suspects’ two vehicles and the illegal abalone were seized and are currently being kept in a safe place for further investigation by the North West Organised Crime Unit in Klerksdorp.
