Denosa Learner Movement to march in BFN

The Denosa Learner Movement in the Free State march to Bophelo House in Bloemfontein today to protest against what they call the collapsing health system.

This follows a nursing student strike at the Free State School of Nursing’s Bloemfontein Campus. The students are refusing to return to wards or classes until the Department of Health pays their outstanding stipends.

The Movement's provincial secretary, Gift Mnyamane says nursing students have tried to engage with the department for several years but an agreement has never been reached.

He says their demands include a total overhaul of the department's management structure and the regulatory body.

Denosa expects a response from the department within 14 days. Hundreds of student nurses are expected to take part in today's march. It will start at National Hospital and proceed to Bophelo House, the provincial health department.
