North West police have re-arrested one of four awaiting trail prisoners who escaped from a police vehicle while being transported to the Brits Magistrate’s Court two weeks ago.

Alfonzo Mpofu (25) was arrested on Tuesday after police received a tip-off from community members who spotted him near Mooinooi. Police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone says he is expected to appear in Brits Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of murder, rape, robbery and now escaping from lawful custody.

The other three suspects, Chris Sithole (24), Gibson Msimango (25) and Ontse Lebese (27) remain at large.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, three prisoners escaped from court cells at the Lehurutshe Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Mokgwabone says Thabo Motsumi, (24), Andile Lindi, (21), and Kagiso Tshukutswane, (22) are wanted for business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms.
