Free State Finance MEC Elzabe Rockman will deliver her budget speech in the Free State Legislature today.
Two of the province's biggest departments - those of health and education - are under financial administration and their financial woes led to a shortage of medication at clinics and hospitals and the late payment of school subsidies.
Opposition parties have called on the MEC to address these matters, as well as the issue of the drought gripping large parts of the country.
Freedom Front Plus MPL, Wouter Wessels says the departments of health and education need more money and strict financial discipline.
DA Chief Whip in the Legislature, David van Vuuren says added to that, Rockman faces several crises which need to be addressed.
The EFF's Kgotso Morapela in turn says a major boost for the agricultural sector is essential.
