A 33-year-old man who allegedly tried to extort R250 000 from murder convicted Oscar Pistorius is due to appear in court in Pretoria today.

Hawks spokesperson, Hangwani Mulaudzi, says the man approached Pistorius on Thursday last week, pretending to be an official from the National Prosecuting Authority, and informed him he could make his case disappear. He says police were informed by a friend of Pistorius and a sting operation put in place.

Mulaudzi says the man was arrested in Pretoria during the operation in which a deposit of R40 000 was paid.
