The search for Sylvester the lion who escaped for a second time from the Karoo National Park over the weekend, was thwarted by strong winds and tough terrain yesterday. According to SA National Parks (SANParks), the search will resume today.

SANParks also reiterated that the decision to put Sylvester down when found, was not taken lightly. It said a number of factors were taken into consideration, the overriding one being the threat that Sylvester poses to human life.

When the lion escaped from the park last year, he killed 30 animals during the 24 days he roamed the Karoo.

Yesterday, SANParks spokesperson, Rey Thlakuli, offered this explanation for the decision.
