Nkandla: ANC's strategy could cost them votes

Loading player...
Political analyst Daniel Silke says the ANC has taken a big gamble in holding onto President Jacob Zuma, especially ahead of the local government elections.

Silke's comment comes after Zuma addressed the nation last night following the Constitutional Court's damning judgment regarding the Nkandla debacle earlier this week. The court found that Zuma and Parliament acted unconstitutionally by failing to implement the recommendations made by the Public Protector on non-security upgrades to his Nkandla home. Zuma now has to pay back some of the money spent on non-security upgrades.

Zuma apologised to South Africans for the Nkandla saga, saying it was never his intention to disrespect the office or actions of Public Protector Thuli Madonsela.

Silke believes that the ANC's strategy to support Zuma could cost them votes.
