The idea of South Africa as the rainbow nation was coined by Archbishop Desmond Tutu in the early days of democratic South Africa. Today, a quick scan of issues in the country would suggest that what was once an inspirational construct has become a seeming pipe dream for the people of Vuwani, students of UJ and many other South Africans.
