Businesses in Kroonstad are suffering as a result of the water crisis currently gripping the city.

The Bloemhoekdam, which supplies water to Kroonstad, is less than 1% full. The Moqhaka municipal manager is expected to meet with various roleplayers on Friday to discuss the issue, which it says is as a result of the drought. A water expert in Kroonstad, Theuns de Bruyn, however says poor management on the municipality's part is also to blame.

Anitia Hatting, the owner of a local crèche, says the children suffer badly as a result of the crisis.

Another local businessman, Tariku Hussein, who is a Muslim by faith, says it has been difficult to perform certain religious practices because of the current water crisis.

The tuck shop owner says the first thing they need to do when they arrive at the mosque is the right of wudhu. He says worshippers are required to wash their hands, elbows, and head before the prayer gets under way.
