The fraud case against a 25-year-old man who was arrested last week for allegedly impersonating North West Premier, Supra Mahumapelo, will resume next year in the Mmabatho Magistrate’s Court.
Brian Setswambuung, spokesperson for North West government, says the man is also set to face further charges as investigations continue.
He was arrested by the Hawks on Christmas Eve in Kuruman the Northern Cape for allegedly impersonating Mahumapelo in a bid to solicit money from high profile politicians. Mahumapelo’s office subsequently warned the public of the scam in a statement, after receiving several calls from high profile politicians, including a Western Cape-based member of Parliament and deputy minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Andries Nel.
Setswambuung says the man is set to appear again in court for his bail application on January 4th 2017.
