The Presidency has approved an official state funeral for the late former Speaker of the Free State Legislature, Ouma Tsopo.

Spokesperson for the provincial Legislature, Life Mokone says acting Premier Elzabe Rockman will lead the funeral arrangements that will be held at the Meloding Methodist Church on Saturday, 7 January at 08.30.

Mokone says a state funeral has been granted because Tsopo served the Free State provincial government in various capacities, including as MEC for various departments, over the years.

The Speaker of the Free State Legislature, Mamiki Qabathe, who suffered her own tragedy after two of her grandchildren drowned at her house on Saturday, has also expressed her condolences to Tsopo's family and friends.

"Puma Stoop", as she was affectionately known, died in the early hours of Sunday, 1 January 2017, after she was admitted to hospital on Christmas Eve 2016.
