The South African Weather Service says wind speeds of up to 60 kilometres per hour were recorded between 18:00 and 20:30 in Neilersdrift, near Upington last night.

Elani Claassen says the strong winds could have been caused by severe thunderstorms north of the area. Grape farmers were
hard-hit after the winds caused damage to houses, land and warehouses. No injuries were reported.

Claassen says more rain is predicted in the coming days in the area.

A grape farmer in the area, Barnus Steyn, told OFM News the community was still clearing affected areas this morning.
