Zuma says reshuffle will improve efficiency and effectiveness

President Jacob Zuma says last night's Cabinet reshuffle was aimed at improving efficiency and effectiveness.

Zuma fired Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and his deputy Mcebisi Jonas, among a series of changes to his Cabinet announced in the early hours of Friday morning. Zuma says the changes bring some younger Members of Parliament and women into the national executive.

Political parties have spoken out strongly against the move. DA leader Mmusi Maimane said the move was an "act of complete state capture". Zuma reshuffled his Cabinet in the early hours of this morning, sacking Gordhan, Jonas and Derek Hanekom. He also moved sports minister Fikile Mbalula to police and added a few new entries to the Cabinet, as Maryke Vermaak reports.

AfriForum's Kallie Kriel says it is a disgrace that the Zuma camp is prepared to sacrifice the country’s economy and the value of the rand, to wage internal ANC battles.
