People of Note - Dr. Johann S. Buis

Rodney Trudgeon’s guest on People of Note came about after a chance encounter at the City Hall recently where he had just done the pre-concert talk. In the audience was a man who is just starting his 20th season as the pre-concert speaker for the world famous Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Dr Johann Buis is currently Associate Professor of Musicology at Wheaton College Illinois but he was born and raised in Oudtshoorn in South Africa and became the first professional oboist of colour in South Africa when he served as a permanent sub with the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra between 1978 and 1982.
