Griquas stun defending champions

The Tafel Lager Griquas have notched up back-to-back victories in the Currie Cup to hand the defending champions, the Toyota Free State Cheetahs, their first defeat since 2015.

The side from the Northern Cape came back from 17-6 down at the half time break to win 30-25 in Bloemfontein.

It has to be said that the Griquas set piece was under pressure throughout the game, and they did remarkably well to upset the Cheetahs.

By the same token, the Cheetahs were also their own worst enemy and let numerous chances split.

The Cheetahs captain, Niell Marais, scored the first two tries for the home side, while the Peacock Blues eighthman, De Wet Kruger, also scored a brace.

This defeat may very well have been the Cheetahs' defence gone out the window, with matches against the Blue Bulls and the Golden Lions still to be played.

The Cheetahs coach Rory Duncan and captain Niell Jordaan talk about their defeat.
