POLICE Minister Nathi Mthethwa has nominated former Ekurhuleni police chief Robert McBride as the new head of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate and asked Parliament to confirm or reject the appointment. He lost his job as metro police chief in Ekurhuleni after he crashed his car and was charged with drunken driving and then trying to defeat the ends of justice. He was initially sentenced to two years in prison but was later acquitted. Is McBride vindicated or has the police minister got it wrong.
