A 42-year-old Ethiopian national has been found guilty of corruption by the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court in the Northern Cape. This follows after he was arrested earlier this year for trying to bribe an Immigration Officer at the provincial Home Affairs Department on 6 January earlier this year. According to the spokesperson of the Hawks in the province, Nomthandazo Mnisi, the suspect, Masore Matewous Teshale, offered to pay the official R6000 in order to facilitate the unlawful release of his fellow Ethiopian friend from custody. The friend had earlier been arrested for not having the required documents to be in the country.
