Award-winning ultramarathon runner, Gerda Steyn, who earlier won this year’s Comrades and Two Oceans marathons and is also currently one of the finalists in the upcoming 2019 G-SPORT awards, says she is thrilled to be competing for the Athlete of the Year award. She is one of three finalist in this specific category. Other award-winning female athletes in this category include Caster Semenya, who is a South African Olympic gold medallist; and Thembi Kgatlana, who was named the 2018 Women’s Footballer of the Year earlier this year by the Confederation of African Football. In this feature, OFM News’ Pulane Choane caught up with Gerda and spoke to her about her rise to sports hall fame and her future plans.
