"You need to be mentally prepared when you move on after rugby"

Everything’s more fun in twos! The first set of twins to have played for the Springboks, Akona and Odwa Ndungane, have brought double the blessings, double the caps and double the rugby glory to their family.

In episode 6 of Half-Time Chat, Siv Ngesi asks the Ndungane twins about on-field rivalry, how to adapt to life on the other side of the rugby field, and whether it’s true that when one twin gets hurt, the other feels his pain.

And Akona spills the beans on a Border coach and a case of mistaken identity! Everything’s more fun in twos! The first set of twins to have played for the Springboks, Akona and Odwa Ndungane, have brought double the blessings, double the caps and double the rugby glory to their family.

Quotes from the Ndungane twins interview with Siv Ngesi:
• Our parents didn’t know that you can make a career out of sport
• The coach saw Odwa and said “I want to sign you” - but he was actually looking for me
• My first cap for the Boks was not a game I’d like to remember but it was a special moment nonetheless
• Playing for the Springboks was special for our whole family
• He was one of those lazy wings who just wanted people to create for him
• For you to play over 100 caps for one union, you need to be discliplined, you need to work hard
• You need to be mentally prepared and have something you love to move onto after rugby.
• Nothing compares to living your dream and getting paid for it
• There’s more things in life than just being at Loftus.
