Igesund on Coaching Pirates & Sundowns

--:--
Few coaches in the league have a resume like former Orlando Pirates & Mamelodi Sundowns mentor Gordon Igesund. His experience is particularly unique as he remains the only coach to win the PSL four times, with four different teams, having done so with Manning Rangers, Santos, Pirates & Sundowns. Joining the Carwash podcast as a guest host, Igesund discussed the difficulties of coaching a Big Three team, stating “Fantastic, fantastic [experience] to coach those teams, but a lot of pressure”.

He continues “It’s because the expectations are so high. At Sundowns, you can go buy any player you want to buy, and go win a championship, you’re not short of anything. At Pirates it’s the same thing, the supporters only want success and it’s very difficult and I think it’s more important to know there, that you’ve got to man-manage the players a lot more than coaching. And the biggest job managing those teams is managing the players who aren’t playing”.
