Duncan Heafield's 500-seater Bellezar restaurant in Umhlanga is one of almost six dozen eateries in the KZN resort town whose Business Interruption insurance claims have been repudiated. They have banded together with hundreds of other business in the province to sue "the offenders" - Santam, Old Mutual, Hollard and Momentum's Guardrisk - major insurance companies which refuse to honour claims despite specific wording which the High Court and the industry says makes them liable. The insurance companies are claiming it was government action rather than Covid-19 that caused the forced closure of businesses.
