"Chiefs & Pirates Would Add Value To Women’s Football”

--:--
In this episode The Big Interview, brought to you by Total, Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis breaks down how big PSL clubs like Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates could follow in the footsteps of Mamelodi Sundowns by introducing women’s teams to their structure.

The two-time CAF women’s coach of the year also compares the situation to European leagues, where large clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester United only recently introduced women’s football, but in doing so earned high praise.

“The top PSL clubs are a brand on their own, and what they’ll bring with them is more brands and women’s football needs more sponsorship. [Kaizer Chiefs] along with Orlando Pirates would really add value to the (SAFA Women’s) league itself but more importantly, I think everybody will get their game up and running. It will improve the brand of the league,” Ellis told SL Radio.

“[If] You look in Europe, Real Madrid were one of the last teams to get a women’s team, Manchester United were one of the last teams. But in the EPL (English Premier League) & La Liga, most of them have female teams and those leagues have really gone from strength to strength and you can see it in their national teams.”
