Is Downs' Cash Splash Fair? The Fans Respond...

--:--
Mamelodi Sundowns have recently confirmed the signings of highly-rated defender Khuliso Mudau from Black Leopards, and Cape Town City forward Kermit Erasmus who netted 13 times in the 2019/20 Absa Premiership season. The two join a long list of new arrivals at Chloorkop for the defending champions who have already added the likes of golden boot-winner Peter Shalulile, former Bidvest stars Gift Motupa & Ricardo Goss amongst others. While they will be competing in four different competitions (DStv Premiership, MTN8, Nedbank Cup & CACL), some have suggested that their spending is excessive.

It is no secret that Masandwana have a large transfer budget, and while they have earned criticism over the years for their expenditure, sentiment seems to have changed over time. In the latest episode of the SL Podcast’s “Fan Reaction Show”, some supporters have actually defended Down’s spending, with one fan stating “if you have the money, why not sign good players”. Naturally, Sundowns still have their critics, with many arguing that they make the league “less competitive” by signing every team’s best talents. Listen to the full podcast using the player above.
