The latest BankservAfrica Take-home Pay Index (BTPI) shows that salaries and wages in South Africa are slowly returning to pre-pandemic levels, but the impact of the third wave of Covid-19 is likely to reflect in the data in the coming months. The index for June 2021 recorded a real salary of R12,496, or R14,883 in nominal terms. This is -0.5% lower than a year ago.
