New daily Covid-19 cases continue to rise sharply in South Africa, with indications pointing to the introduction of new lockdown restrictions, say economists from the Bureau for Economic Research (BER). In a research note on Monday (13 December), the group said that Covid-19 cases are increasing markedly in all provinces, seemingly driven by the recently discovered Omicron-variant.
