The managing director of RCL Foods' chicken division, Marthinus Stander, says poultry price increases may be unavoidable, and both producers and consumers are likely to feel the impact of the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Some of the major crops produced by Ukraine are maize and soybeans, which are critical for chicken feed. About 70% of the cost of raising a chicken comes from its feed, of which 60% is maize, 30% is soya, and 10% is made up of other ingredients, according to Stander.
