Thirty-seven municipalities around the country are still making use of bucket toilets as a form of sanitation, according to a new report by Statistics South Africa.

Statistician-general Risenga Maluleke released the results of the non-financial census of municipalities for the financial year 2019/ 2020.

The report, which was released on Tuesday, shows an increase of 11% in the use of bucket toilets, mostly due to a rise in the Free State.
