The Role of Corporate Forensics against Corruption

At the 2024 State of the Nation Address, President Cyril Ramaphosa outlined how government has “taken steps, including through new legislation, to strengthen our ability to prevent money laundering and fraud and secure our removal from the ‘grey list’ of the Financial Action Task Force”.



The President made sure to include mention of the businesses involved in corruption as equal targets for these investigations. He said, that with the assistance of business, the government has set up a digital forensic capability to support the NPA Investigating Directorate. But what is the extent of digital forensics and how will it be used to tackle corruption at both a private and public level?



According to Tendai Jangara, Director in the Corporate and White-Collar Investigations from leading corporate and commercial law firm, Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr (CDH), "The integration of corporate forensics into the legal landscape marks a pivotal moment in the fight against corruption. As technology evolves, so too must our methods of investigation and prosecution.”
