Sars has auto-assessed more than 5 million taxpayers with at least R5 billion in tax refunds

South African Revenue Service (Sars) commissioner, Edward Kieswetter, on Tuesday announced that more than 5 million taxpayers were auto-assessed by Sars, with almost 100% of them accepting the outcome without making any changes.
To date, refunds amounting of approximately R10 billion have been issued to 1.6 million auto-assessed taxpayers, averaging R5 900 per refund.
