Sudan: Al Fashir Residents Turn to Animal Feed as Siege Continues

Loading player...
Life in Al Fashir, the capital of North Darfur, has become a daily struggle for its 900,000 residents. For 14 months, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have imposed a siege, blocking food and fuel from entering the city. With the RSF attempting to capture the last state capital in Darfur still outside their control, Al Fashir has effectively become a militarised zone. Streets are empty, residents hide from shelling, and volunteers rely on donkey carts to distribute scarce food. Some families have been forced to survive on animal feed. Rare footage obtained by Sky News offers a haunting glimpse inside the city, where survival is a daily fight. Human Rights Watch researcher Mohamed Osman speaks to Phemelo about the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
